Everyone Goes ORGANIC

by hahndds on January 5, 2010

The word is out, people care about their health and the health of their planet!  So what happens?  EVERYONE goes organic.

Last week I went to Whole Foods and a few other non-organic grocery stores.  Which store do you think was the busiest?  Yes, Whole Foods was a mad house!  That is a good thing, but it leads to a whole new problem…with everyone, especially the big fish, going organic, how do you know the organic label is not just being exploited?

You don’t.  The sad truth is that the organic classification needs a lot of work.  In many cases you can buy organic shampoo that is only organic due to the water it contains (over 80% of the product), the rest is just as bad as the non-organic product.  You need to know what you are buying.  For example, XyloSalt is a powder because you can not make and sell a liquid mouthwash without preservatives that is not acidic.  I tried for over 6 years!

For a general rule, the little fish out there, the mom and pop companies that make unique organic products, the small farmers, the mom’s at home making unique baked goods, they are the true heart of organic America.  We need to give these little guys a chance!  Go buy from a local farm co-op.  Search etsy for local bakers.  Support the little guys, they are what caused this organic revolution in the first place!
